In anticipation of the opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for major routes across the state.

The announcement was made on Friday, May 16, by TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who noted that heavy traffic congestion is expected in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Remo, where several sporting activities will take place.

“For the opening ceremony at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, we advise road users with no official business in the area to steer clear of the stadium axis,” Akinbiyi stated.

He explained that from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 30, 2025, the road leading to Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, in Abeokuta, will be temporarily converted into a one-way route to maintain order during the event.

“All vehicles parked along the designated routes should be cleared by Sunday, May 18, or risk being towed,” Akinbiyi warned.

He further revealed that various points within the Sagamu area—including the NYSC Camp Gate, RSS Roundabout, Isale Oko Turning, Ita-Oba Junction, and Express Junction—have been earmarked as diversion points. These areas will be under the control of TRACE and other security agencies to maintain smooth traffic flow.

Similarly, in Ijebu-Ode, vehicular movement will be redirected to ease access to the Dipo Dina Stadium. Akinbiyi provided alternate routes for motorists navigating the Idobi-Idomila and Itale-Odoegbo areas.

“Drivers from Itale-Odoegbo heading to Idobi-Idomila should turn at Talbot Roundabout and follow Mosun Cafe to Igbeba Road, then make a right at NTA junction to link GRA and proceed via Otunba Onanuga Street to Idomila Road,” he said. “Those from Idomila en route Palace Road and Itale should reverse the route.”

He added that over 10,000 athletes and officials from across Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, would be moving to and from Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, their designated camp.

“To ensure minimal travel delays and effective traffic management across Ogun’s 18 major traffic corridors, TRACE operatives and security agencies will be strategically deployed throughout the duration of the festival,” he assured.

Akinbiyi appealed to residents and road users to cooperate with traffic officials to ensure a smooth and safe transportation experience for all.

“We urge the motoring public to bear with us, comply with the traffic instructions, and support our efforts to maintain order throughout this historic event,” he said.

The 2024 National Sports Festival is scheduled to begin on May 18 and run through the end of the month, drawing participants from all 36 states and the FCT.
