The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended former governor and serving senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, alongside one of his trusted political associates, Hon. Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities.
Announcing the decision in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the party’s State Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, said the suspension was approved during the State Working Committee meeting presided over by the Ogun APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.
According to him, disciplinary committees were set up in Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area to investigate separate petitions filed against Senator Daniel and Hon. Folarin.
“The committees invited the members under investigation to appear and present their defence or show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken,” Olufemi said. “Unfortunately, they failed to honour the invitations, respond in writing, or attend the meetings scheduled for their defence.”
He added that the panels proceeded with the investigations based on available evidence and testimonies from witnesses.
“In the course of interactions, it was also alleged that the affected members attempted to intimidate party members and dissuade them from cooperating with the committees,” Olufemi stated. “To preserve the integrity of the process and prevent interference, the committees recommended their indefinite suspension.”
The recommendations were subsequently ratified by the State Working Committee.
“The suspensions affirm the party’s resolve to enforce discipline and uphold its constitution,” the publicity director added.
