The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called for stronger cooperation between Nigeria and Switzerland to advance human development and national growth.
Obi made the call after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, on Wednesday.
In a post on his X account, the former Anambra State governor described the meeting as productive, saying discussions focused on Nigeria’s development priorities, particularly education, healthcare and poverty reduction.
Obi expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s contributions to Nigeria, especially its support for initiatives in the North-East.
He said, “I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East.”
The former governor stressed the need for both countries to deepen their relationship, noting that partnerships based on common values and a commitment to human development could help build a more prosperous and inclusive society.
He added, “Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.”
