The National Youth Service Corps has advised prospective corps members posted to Bauchi State for the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation exercise to avoid traveling at night for safety reasons.
The warning was issued by the scheme’s Public Relations Officer in Bauchi State, Jacob Unogwu, during a media briefing on Tuesday.
“For the sake of their safety, we strongly discourage corps members from embarking on late-night journeys to the orientation camp,” Unogwu said.
“The scheme has always frowned on such movements because of the risks involved.”
He announced that the registration of the 1,700 corps members deployed to Bauchi would begin on July 30 and end at midnight on July 31.
Registration will take place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
Unogwu revealed that the official swearing-in ceremony would be held on August 1, while the orientation programme is scheduled to run until August 19.
“Prospective corps members will be allowed into the camp only after being properly verified as authentic graduates. A discreet screening process will be conducted as a security measure to prevent impersonation or intrusion,” he added.
He emphasized the need for strict compliance with the camp’s rules and regulations, including adherence to the official dress code.
“Anyone found violating these rules will be sanctioned according to the NYSC’s operational guidelines,” he stated.
Unogwu urged corps members to exhibit punctuality, discipline, and a sense of responsibility throughout the orientation period.
“Corps members are advised to take all instructions seriously. This is the beginning of their service year and sets the tone for the rest of their experience,” he said.
The NYSC continues to prioritize the welfare and security of corps members across the country, particularly during transitions and travel to orientation camps.
