The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has advised corps members to respect local customs, remain disciplined and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development during their service year.
Nafiu gave the advice while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states, according to a statement shared on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters’ X handle on Saturday.
He urged the corps members to be punctual, resourceful and committed at their places of primary assignment, stressing that good conduct would enhance their service experience.
“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, you must respect the rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.
The NYSC boss also cautioned corps members to respect the traditions of their host communities and manage their finances wisely, noting that prudent financial habits would support them both during and after their service year.
“Wise financial management will help you stay stable throughout your service and even beyond,” he added.
In Ogun State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, told the Director-General that 3,341 corps members, including 975 redeployed from Lagos State, had been registered at the orientation camp.
She commended the corps members for their conduct, saying they had adjusted well to camp life.
“The corps members have conducted themselves responsibly and adapted to the regimented camp environment,” Nasamu said. “Camp officials are also carrying out their duties diligently with a high level of synergy.”
Similarly, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that 3,068 corps members were registered in the state, noting their active participation in camp activities and readiness to contribute to national development.
“The corps members have shown commendable character and enthusiasm and are eager to contribute to the development of the country across different sectors,” Ola-Peters said.
The NYSC had earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, across the 37 NYSC orientation camps.
According to the scheme, camp registration ended on Friday, January 23, while the swearing-in ceremony was held the same day.
The orientation exercise is expected to conclude with a closing ceremony on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
