In response to the growing security threats across the country, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kogi State Command, has concluded a six-week intensive weapon handling training for 262 of its personnel.

The training, which focused on the use of G3 and AK-47 rifles, was aimed at equipping officers with modern skills to defend critical national infrastructure and tackle increasing attacks on security personnel and formations.

Speaking after the range classification exercise, the Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Esther Akinlade, emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building in view of evolving security challenges.

“It has become necessary for our officers to be constantly trained and retrained in weapon handling due to the rising attacks on security formations and key infrastructure. This training is essential for enhancing their operational efficiency,” she stated.

According to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSC Aliyu Abdullahi, the commandant also urged the trained personnel to maintain discipline and professionalism in their conduct.

Akinlade warned against any form of abuse or unprofessional use of firearms, noting that the Corps is counting on the officers to represent its core values.

“Our goal is to ensure that every officer conducts themselves in accordance with the ethics and standards of the NSCDC. The nation is placing more confidence in our ability to respond to threats effectively,” she added.

She appreciated the support of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, led by Brigadier General Sidi, and other security agencies for their collaboration in making the training successful.

The exercise, she noted, aligns with the national security strategies of the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, aimed at boosting the Corps’ capacity to protect Nigerians and national assets.
