The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has announced the deployment of 1,531 personnel to ensure adequate security during the one-day working visit of President Bola Tinubu to the state on Thursday.
The President is expected to commission a series of landmark projects executed by the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The deployment was confirmed by the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Olatunde Maku, in a statement issued in Awka on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Edwin Okadigbo.
Maku explained that the personnel would be tasked with providing security coverage and surveillance across critical national, state, and local government assets throughout the state.
He added that the deployment would not be limited to Anambra alone, as personnel from neighbouring commands in Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Delta states would also be mobilised to reinforce the operation.
“The command has made robust security arrangements with sister security agencies to ensure a successful state visit of Mr President,” Maku said.
“Our personnel will be positioned in strategic locations, including the airport, bridges, government buildings, parks, markets, electricity substations and telecommunication facilities.
“They will also be at the Solution Fun City facilities and other sensitive locations across the state before, during and after the visit,” he added.
The Commandant noted that the NSCDC, working in synergy with other security outfits, had ramped up covert surveillance, joint operations, and confidence-building patrols to maintain order ahead of the high-profile visit.
He further stated, “The personnel will serve as a human shield to prevent the crowd from obstructing the free movement of the President’s entourage along designated routes.” He also confirmed that they would assist with access control at key venues.
Maku urged all deployed officers to conduct themselves with professionalism, discipline, and civility in the discharge of their duties, particularly in coordinating closely with other security agencies.
He also appealed to residents to be law-abiding and cooperate with security operatives as they come out in large numbers to welcome the President.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate major projects including the Solution FunCity, Anambra Country Club, New Government House, New Government Lodge, New Presidential Lodge, and the Emeka Anyaoku Centre at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
