A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party and pioneer Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, has refuted reports of a conflict between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike regarding the party’s upcoming National Convention.
In a press release issued on Thursday, Onaiwu described the claims as “baseless and mischievous,” attributing them to political saboteurs seeking to undermine the party’s unity.
“There is no rift between Governor Makinde and former Governor Wike. Both men remain committed party leaders and loyal members of the PDP family,” Onaiwu stated. “Those trying to sow discord are simply unhappy with the renewed strength and unity demonstrated at the recent PDP strategic meeting.”
He emphasized the PDP’s position as Nigeria’s only truly national party, anchored in democratic principles, open dialogue, and internal solidarity. Onaiwu confirmed that preparations for the convention are progressing smoothly, with the venue and procedures collectively approved by the party’s National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, and other stakeholders in consultation with the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Onaiwu called on the public and media to disregard the purported crisis, reiterating the party’s focus on reclaiming national leadership in 2027.
“The PDP is not distracted by sponsored propaganda. Our mission is clear, our ranks are united, and our vision is focused on delivering competent leadership to Nigerians once again,” he concluded.
