The New Nigeria Peoples Party has issued a scathing rebuke of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board over what it describes as the agency’s mishandling of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
In a statement released on Friday, the NNPP’s Southwest leader, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, asserted that the leadership at JAMB lacks the competence required to manage such a critical national assignment.
His criticism follows widespread reports of irregularities in UTME results, including a shocking case where a student’s score reportedly plummeted from 150 to 120 days after sitting for the exam, an incident that has ignited public outrage.
Ajadi decried the examination body’s shortcomings, noting that its role is vital to the academic future of millions of Nigerian students seeking entry into universities, polytechnics, and colleges.
He maintained that the apology issued by JAMB’s registrar was insufficient, especially in light of reports that some students have tragically lost their lives due to distress caused by the examination process.
He urged the Federal Government to initiate an investigation into JAMB’s operations via the Ministry of Education and hold accountable all officials implicated in the ongoing issues.
He also extended his sympathies to bereaved families and emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the system.
Ajadi proposed decentralizing the UTME as a way to reduce the pressure on JAMB and enhance service delivery.
He also stressed the importance of giving students adequate time to prepare for any rescheduled examinations to prevent a recurrence of the present crisis.
“The recent admission of errors by JAMB is an embarrassment to our nation. Their inefficiency has caused immense sorrow for families affected by this situation. The government must take decisive action to address these failures,” Ajadi stated.
