The New Nigeria People’s Party has formally apologized to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress over critical comments made by its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued by National Secretary Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the party disowned Kwankwaso’s recent statements against the presidency, describing them as “reckless and unrepresentative of the party’s position.”

The NNPP clarified that Kwankwaso should no longer be considered a member or national leader of the party, emphasizing that Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam founded and registered the NNPP in 2002.

The statement asserted that Kwankwaso and his associates had been expelled from the party and should cease using the NNPP’s name for political attacks.

“The recent outburst and attacks on the personality of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his expelled group are views and positions of his Kwankwasia group and not that of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” Oginni stated.

The party cited an April 3, 2025, ruling by the FCT High Court in Abuja, which upheld Dr. Aniebonam as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as Chairman of the National Working Committee, effectively ending Kwankwaso’s attempt to control the NNPP.

Oginni extended an “unreserved apology” to President Tinubu and the APC leadership under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, condemning Kwankwaso’s remarks as contrary to the NNPP’s values. He further clarified that Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and other former NWC members led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji are no longer affiliated with the NNPP, a status confirmed by judgments from the Abia State High Court and the FCT High Court.

The NNPP urged the media and public to stop referring to Kwankwaso as its leader, noting that he now only heads the Kwankwasia faction. The statement also highlighted growing dissent among Kwankwaso’s followers, some of whom have demanded proof of NNPP’s original registration certificate—still held by founder Dr. Aniebonam.

Reaffirming its commitment to constructive opposition politics, the NNPP pledged to contribute to national development while rejecting what it termed “dirty politics.” The party’s leadership emphasized its focus on maintaining integrity and playing a responsible role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
