NiMet predicts thunderstorms, rainfall nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has projected widespread thunderstorms and rainfall in several parts of the country on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

In its daily weather forecast released on July 9, the agency stated that northern states such as Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Bauchi will likely witness thunderstorms along with light to moderate rainfall during the morning hours.

Other parts of the North are expected to see sunny intervals with scattered clouds.

For the afternoon and evening periods, NiMet warned of thunderstorms coupled with moderate to heavy downpours and strong winds that may affect locations including Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno.

The central region is forecast to begin the day with thunderstorms and light rainfall, particularly in Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger. As the day progresses, moderate rainfall is expected to spread across the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Niger, and Plateau.

In the South, early morning weather will feature cloudy skies and light rainfall in places like Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

This will give way to moderate rainfall across much of the southern region later in the day.

NiMet also issued a public advisory, urging Nigerians to stay cautious, “Remain alert to potential flash floods, strong winds, and localized disruptions as a result of the thunderstorms and rainfall.”
