The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across several regions in Nigeria starting Sunday, June 8, through Tuesday, June 11, 2025.
In a weather outlook issued Saturday in Abuja, NiMet warned that wet weather conditions are expected in many states, covering the North, North-Central, and Southern zones of the country.
The agency noted that “Sunday will start off with cloudy skies in many areas, transitioning to afternoon and evening thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi States.”
Residents in the North-Central states should also prepare for similar weather, as rain and thunderstorms are predicted later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States.
In the southern region, NiMet anticipates a calm, cloudy morning followed by rainfall in the afternoon across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
On Monday, the agency expects morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Bauchi, with storm activity spreading through the North-Central region, including the FCT, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue States.
By Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms and moderate rain will continue in Zamfara and Kaduna States, mainly in the morning.
NiMet stressed the importance of public safety during this period of unsettled weather. “We urge the public to take precautionary measures such as disconnecting electrical appliances, avoiding tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches, and securing loose items outdoors. Motorists are advised to avoid driving during heavy rainfall,” the agency stated.
Airline operators have also been advised to monitor weather updates closely for efficient flight planning and to avoid disruptions.
