The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the collation of votes for the presidential election in Borno state to 4pm on Sunday, due to the absence of political party representatives.

The venue for the collation exercise is at the Multipurpose Hall 5 of the Kashim Ibrahim College of Education, Maiduguri, however, soon after the process began at 1:25pm and the party representatives were absent, the Presidential Collation Officer, Prof. Jude Rabo, announced the postponement, as it was impossible to continue without them.

However, according to PUNCH Metro, the absence of party representatives at the collation may have been due to an outbreak of a major fire incident which razed the popular Maiduguri Monday Market on Sunday morning.

The party representatives may have most likely been affected by the unfortunate incident.

The PUNCH reported that hundreds of traders were spotted struggling to salvage the remnant of their goods upon visitation.
