Nigeria wins U-21 Women’s Volleyball Championship

The 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship Zone 3 held in Niamey, Niger Republic has been won by Nigeria.

Nigeria emerged victorious on Sunday night in the finals by defeating Ghana with a score of 3:0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10), thereby securing the championship title.

In their inaugural match of the tournament, the female athletes effortlessly triumphed over their regional adversaries, Ghana, securing a resounding victory with a score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8).

The team maintained their victorious streak in their subsequent match against the host nation, Niger, securing a 3-0 victory (25-4, 25-11, 25-4).

In their third match, the team also dominated Benin Republic, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) to earn a rematch against Ghana in the championship.

Coach Rakiya Mohammed thanked God for the win in a post-game speech.

“We bless God because this is the first time Nigeria is clinching trophy at the underage level. I feel so happy.

“The Ghanaians came all out but the girls proved their worth and we have now qualified for the world championship in Thailand.”
