The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old pupil by her Arabic teacher at Markazil Hikim Madrasah in Ilorin’s Pakata area.

The suspect, Muhammad Jamiu Musa, is currently detained at the Kwara State Police Headquarters as investigations continue.

According to BBYDI, the young survivor required emergency surgery, blood transfusion and extensive medical treatment following the assault. Medical tests have also been conducted on the suspect as part of the ongoing investigation.

In a statement issued by BBYDI’s Executive Director Nurah Jimoh-Sanni, the organization described the incident as a devastating breach of trust. “The violation of a child in a trusted learning environment is an unforgivable betrayal,” Jimoh-Sanni said. “We demand urgent and transparent prosecution and call on the public to reject the culture of silence that allows such crimes to fester.”

BBYDI stressed that exposing sexual violence against children is critical to securing justice and prevention. The organization pledged legal and psychosocial support for the survivor while monitoring the case closely.

The group commended the swift response of Kwara State authorities including the Ministries of Justice and Women Affairs, Child Protection Network, and local NGOs. BBYDI called for immediate reforms including mandatory child protection training for all educators, full enforcement of child rights laws, and public awareness campaigns to break the silence around abuse.
