President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has paid a courtesy visit to Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi at his residence in Nottingham, United Kingdom, following the player’s recent injury.
According to The PUNCH, Gusau accompanied by members of the NFF Executive Board, visited the Nottingham Forest striker on Thursday to assess his recovery progress and offer moral support.
“We are happy to see you in good spirits, Taiwo. Your health and recovery are very important to us, and we are confident that you will bounce back stronger,” Gusau said during the visit.
Awoniyi recently underwent surgery after sustaining a ruptured intestine during a Premier League clash between Nottingham Forest and Leicester City, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The injury occurred when he collided with the goalpost while attempting to score, and though he initially continued playing, he was later substituted and rushed for medical evaluation.
The NFF President, who also recently assumed the role of President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), prayed for the player’s speedy recovery and reassured him of the Federation’s continued support.
“You are not just a key player for the Super Eagles but also an inspiration to many young Nigerians. The NFF will keep a close eye on your recovery and do everything we can to support you,” Gusau added.
In response, Awoniyi expressed gratitude for the visit and support shown by the NFF leadership.
“I deeply appreciate this visit. It means a lot to me to see the NFF leadership come all the way here to check on me. My recovery is going well, and I’m doing everything possible to return to the pitch stronger,” he said.
The striker also acknowledged the care he is receiving from his club’s medical team, adding that their professionalism has been crucial to his rehabilitation journey.
