The National Examinations Council has officially released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination, conducted for final-year Junior Secondary School students across the country.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, a total of 179,201 candidates registered and sat for the examination, which covered 12 subjects and took place nationwide from May 12 to May 23, 2025.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the BECE Award Committee meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking during the meeting, the Committee Chairperson and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, lauded the examination body’s coordination and transparency.

“We are impressed by the smooth conduct of the examination and the integrity of the result processing. The collaboration between NECO and education stakeholders nationwide has been outstanding,” she said.

The session was attended by principals from various secondary schools and senior NECO officials. Discussions focused on national performance trends, process improvements, and the need to sustain the credibility of the examination system.

In a bid to give students a second chance, NECO has scheduled a re-sit for candidates who failed to meet minimum requirements in core subjects. The re-sit, covering English Studies and Mathematics, is scheduled to take place from July 23 to 24, 2025.

The Council has urged students and schools to check their results via the official NECO portal and begin preparations for the upcoming re-sit where necessary.

NECO reiterated its commitment to delivering transparent and credible examinations, adding that the BECE remains a key requirement for students transitioning from junior to senior secondary school.
