The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has launched a digital platform aimed at simplifying and speeding up the process of obtaining drug integrity tests and visa clearance certificates.
The new system, called the Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System, was officially introduced on Tuesday in Abuja by NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd). Represented by the agency’s Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, Marwa described the initiative as a transformative step in the agency’s commitment to modernising its operations and tackling drug-related issues through technology.
“This marks a paradigm shift in our fight against the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking,” Marwa stated.
“We are eliminating human interference, delays, and other challenges associated with the manual processes of the past.”
The NDLEA chief explained that the platform automates the entire procedure for drug integrity testing and visa clearance, allowing for greater transparency and ease of access.
The system also integrates with other government agencies to streamline background checks and verification.
“Applicants can now complete the entire process online—from account creation and booking appointments to receiving their certificates—without needing to physically visit NDLEA offices,” he noted.
The portal enables drug test certificates to be issued instantly, while visa clearance certificates will be processed within three days, or up to one week in special cases.
According to Marwa, the system also offers e-certification and verification capabilities, helping to prevent forgery and uphold Nigeria’s international reputation.
Marwa also revealed that private medical centres can partner with the agency to serve as accredited testing locations, further expanding access and convenience for applicants.
“This is not just a law enforcement tool,” he said. “It is a non-judgmental pathway designed to support early intervention and rehabilitation. Whether you are a student, a corporate employee, a prospective couple, or a parent—this platform provides a safe, secure, and standardised way to conduct drug integrity tests.”
The NDLEA noted that the new system is in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reflects the agency’s two-pronged approach to drug control: reducing both supply and demand.
The portal, according to officials, also includes a supervisory dashboard for real-time monitoring across NDLEA commands nationwide. This will enhance accountability and ensure consistent application of standards across the country.
“The success of this initiative is a shared responsibility,” Marwa emphasized.
“We call on partner agencies, health institutions, corporate bodies, and the general public to embrace and utilise this system.”
The NDLEA Visa Clearance Certificate is a mandatory document for Nigerians traveling to certain countries flagged as drug source or transit nations.
The digitisation of this service is expected to significantly reduce processing time, eliminate corruption, and ensure accurate documentation.
