The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has decorated seven of its officers with the new rank of Deputy Commander of Narcotics, following their promotion by the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.).

The event, held on Friday at the command’s headquarters in Benin City, was presided over by the State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who described the promotions as “a recognition of hard work and a call to greater responsibility.”

Those elevated include Timothy Nku Odu, James Olusola Olarewaju, Akpabio Akpan, Anthony Odu Oko, Fidelis Nkazi Heijirika, Paul Akhazee, and Mohammed Danmusa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ofoyeju praised the officers’ dedication and resilience in tackling the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

He said, “The elevation of these officers underscores the agency’s commitment to strengthening its operational capacity in the war against illicit substances. This promotion is not just a reward but also a challenge to do more in safeguarding our communities.”

The commander urged the newly decorated officers to remain courageous and professional in their duties, stressing that drug enforcement was becoming increasingly complex.

“As law enforcement evolves, our task becomes tougher, but our resolve remains strong. I am confident that with this team, the NDLEA in Edo will continue to achieve greater results,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Deputy Commander of Narcotics Timothy Nku expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged renewed commitment to the agency’s mission.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. We are grateful for this honour and we assure the leadership that we will justify the confidence reposed in us by working harder and remaining loyal to the service,” Nku said.

The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the command, family members, and colleagues who celebrated the milestone achievements of the newly promoted officers.
