Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted a shipment containing illicit psychoactive substances cleverly disguised as imported green tea.

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the development on Sunday through a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, urging Nigerians to be vigilant.

According to him, what appeared to be a harmless consignment of green tea turned out to be dangerous substances intended to mislead consumers and authorities.

“This consignment is a green tea import in packaging and on the outside,” Babafemi stated. “But if you drink it, you may lose your mind because the real and undisclosed content is psychoactive substances.”

He added that the interception was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking and consumption of harmful drugs across the country.

“Shine your eyes,” he warned, reinforcing the call for public awareness and caution in handling seemingly harmless products.

The NDLEA has recently intensified its crackdown on drug smuggling operations, with numerous arrests and seizures recorded in the past months.
