Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered a drug consignment cleverly disguised as plantain chips at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the development in a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

“Narco-trend update: This consignment was packaged as plantain chips, but inside was skunk, as discovered by vigilant #ndlea_nigeria officers in one of their latest seizures at Lagos airport,” Babafemi stated.

According to him, the seizure is part of ongoing efforts by the agency to track evolving methods used by drug traffickers to evade security checks.

Babafemi also issued a strong warning to air travellers, urging them to be cautious when accepting parcels for delivery.

“Always be careful of what you’re given to travel with!” he advised.

The NDLEA has intensified surveillance at Nigerian airports as traffickers increasingly turn to deceptive packaging to smuggle illicit substances. Photos released alongside Babafemi’s post showed the seized items carefully arranged in branded plantain chip packaging.

The agency reiterated its commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks across the country and ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s airspace.
