Ndidi to miss Besiktas, Başakşehir clash over thigh injury

Beşiktaş midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is facing a spell on the treatment table after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Nigeria.

The Turkish giants disclosed the setback in an official statement on Thursday, confirming that the Super Eagles star picked up the knock during Tuesday’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw against South Africa.

Ndidi had to make way in the second half, with Christantus Uche taking his place.

Club’s Medical Update
“Our player, Wilfred Ndidi, who was unable to play due to an injury sustained during the Nigerian national team’s match against South Africa, has returned to Turkey,” the club announced on its website.

“An evaluation and an MRI performed at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital revealed a strain and bleeding in the posterior thigh muscle (semimembranosus). Our medical team has begun treatment for our player.”

Blow for Yalçın’s Plans
The 28-year-old will now sit out Beşiktaş’ weekend league encounter with İstanbul Başakşehir, delivering an early headache for head coach Sergen Yalçın.

Ndidi joined the Black Eagles in July on a three-year deal from Sky Bet Championship side Leicester City and has so far featured in two league matches for the 16-time Turkish Süper Lig champions.
