NCoS commissions 358 officers after training in Kaduna

A total of 358 officers have completed their training under the Nigeria Correctional Service, marking a significant stride towards enhancing operations in the nation’s correctional system.

The graduation ceremony, which celebrated the conclusion of the 340th Basic Recruit Course, took place on Thursday at the training school in Kaduna.

It was presided over by the Comptroller General of the NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuch, who was represented at the event by Deputy Controller General, Olarenwanju Amoran.

The newly commissioned junior officers underwent six months of intensive training, combining physical drills with academic and ethical instruction designed to prepare them for the demands of correctional service.

In his address, Nwakuch praised the recruits for their “courage, discipline, and commitment to national service,” urging them to carry those values into their future roles.

He emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity, reminding them to stay loyal to the service and the nation.

He noted that the timing of the graduation aligns with ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes innovation and restructuring across security institutions.

According to Nwakuch, the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019 had brought about a pivotal shift in the service’s framework, incorporating both custodial and non-custodial approaches.

He added that training schools have adjusted their curriculum to reflect these broader responsibilities.

“The service maintains zero tolerance for indiscipline, disloyalty, and unprofessional conduct,” Nwakuch stated.

“I urge you to familiarise yourselves with the relevant laws and standing orders guiding your duties,” he warned.

The Comptroller General also appreciated the unwavering support of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and President Tinubu, whose efforts, he said, continue to drive correctional reforms and improved national security.
