The Nigerian Navy has affirmed its commitment to supporting the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority in enforcing the provisions of the Equipment Leasing Act, 2015.
Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, made the pledge during a courtesy call by ELRA officials to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Friday by Adebola Sunday, Head of Media and Corporate Communication for ELRA.
ELRA’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Donald Wokoma, reiterated the agency’s dedication to promoting transparency and accountability within the leasing sector.
“ELRA promotes leasing as a driver of economic growth and ensures leased assets are properly registered and traceable to enhance transparency and maritime enforcement,” Wokoma said.
In response, Vice Admiral Abbas emphasized the importance of asset registration in maintaining economic stability in the maritime sphere.
“The Nigerian Navy stands ready to collaborate with ELRA, as effective asset registration strengthens economic activity and oversight,” he stated.
Abbas also praised the partnership between ELRA and Admiralty Maritime Services Limited, highlighting that leasing allows operators to grow their fleets without large upfront capital requirements.
Both the Navy and ELRA agreed to expand operational collaboration, improve information sharing, and create structured frameworks to boost compliance, increase investor confidence, and protect national economic interests.
