Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has appealed to alumni associations across the state to actively contribute to the development of their former schools, noting that such partnerships would significantly strengthen government efforts to expand access to quality education.

Speaking in Lafia on Saturday during the 2025 national convention of the Lafia Old Students Association — the alumni body of Government Science School, Lafia — the governor praised the group’s investment in multi-million-naira infrastructure projects at the school.

“We have over 400 secondary schools in Nasarawa State, yet not all of them enjoy the kind of committed alumni association that LOSA represents,” Sule said. “I want to commend my dear brother, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, and all members for their dedication. You have shown how resources can be used judiciously to transform an institution.”

The governor, who commissioned several new facilities during the event themed “Celebrating Unity, Legacy, and Progress”, emphasised that alumni involvement can create lasting educational impact. “I encourage our people, especially those with the capacity and exposure, to continue to give back to education in the state,” he added.

LOSA’s National President, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, described the projects as “powerful symbols of our unwavering belief in the transformative power of education,” urging current students to take advantage of the improved facilities to excel.

“These aren’t just buildings,” Shuaib said. “They represent our deep desire to provide an even better learning environment for today’s students and generations to come.”

The Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd), also a member of LOSA, hailed Shuaib’s leadership and pledged continued support for the school, recalling the formative role the institution played in his own life during the 1970s.

Principal of the Government Science School, Lafia, Abubakar Buhari, expressed gratitude for the extensive interventions, which include renovated halls, upgraded science laboratories, sports facilities, solar-powered boreholes, and administrative block improvements.

According to The PUNCH, during the convention’s Annual General Meeting, LOSA members passed a vote of confidence in Dr. Shuaib’s leadership and re-elected his executive team for another term.
