The Nigerian Air Force organized a special career day for students of Dikko College in Katsina State, aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and inspiring future careers in the military.
According to The PUNCH, the initiative, held under the Civil-Military Relations programme, was part of a broader nationwide effort to foster trust and collaboration between the public and the Air Force.
The event featured interactive sessions designed to expose students to career opportunities within the NAF and encourage informed decision-making about their future paths.
Speaking during the event, Air Commodore Ibrahim Jibia, Commander of the 2134 Operating Base in Katsina and Joint Force Air Component Commander, Operation Hadarin Daji, emphasized the strategic importance of public engagement in military operations.
“This event is not just about recruitment; it reflects our commitment to transparency, national pride, and service,” Jibia stated. “Our operations are built on public trust, and programs like this help to bridge the gap between the armed forces and the communities we serve.”
He also acknowledged the leadership of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for prioritizing outreach programs that highlight the Air Force’s role in securing the nation. Jibia noted that President Bola Tinubu has continued to show strong support for the military, especially the Air Force, by investing heavily in platforms, personnel training, and welfare schemes.

“The President has made security a personal mission, recognizing that no socio-economic progress can be made without a safe and stable nation,” he added.
Explaining the choice of venue, Jibia highlighted the historical significance of Dikko College, formerly Government College Katsina, which boasts an impressive alumni list including two former Presidents—Muhammadu Buhari and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua—as well as prominent emirs and military officers.
“This school shaped many great Nigerians, including myself. Returning here is both nostalgic and a call to duty. We’re here to assess not just the physical infrastructure but also the academic performance, and contribute to its development,” he said.
He praised the efforts of Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, in revitalizing the school’s infrastructure, noting that visible improvements are already underway. Jibia urged alumni and stakeholders to support the institution’s revival, saying it is a shared responsibility to restore its lost glory.
“Every citizen has a role in nation-building, and our students must realize the legacy they carry. This institution must continue to produce exceptional leaders, and we are committed to seeing that happen,” Jibia concluded.
The event also served as a motivational platform for the students, who were encouraged to dream big and pursue careers that align with their strengths and aspirations.
