Joseph Aloba, father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has reiterated claims that his son suffered bullying from his former record label boss, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley.

According to The PUNCH, Aloba dismissed Naira Marley’s recent attempt to absolve himself of responsibility for the singer’s troubled career and untimely death.

In a video released earlier in the week, the Marlian Music chief had claimed that he never harmed Mohbad but only tried to guide him, particularly after discovering that the artist had allegedly begun using illicit substances.

However, Mohbad’s father countered the statement, insisting that he personally witnessed situations where his son was harassed.

“I went to see Naira Marley over some of the things Mohbad had said, and that was all. But later, a lot of other things happened that I personally witnessed.

“There were about three other people present at the time; two of them are still alive today. One of them even came to me once to report that Naira Marley was beating Mohbad,” he said.

Aloba also refuted suggestions that his visit to the singer’s former boss was financially motivated.

“When we went to see him to apologise, he wasn’t even speaking respectfully. People think I went there to collect money, but life is much more than just what I want to eat,” he added.

On the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s financial dealings, the grieving father admitted that Marley had once complained to him about the late singer’s transactions.

“Naira Marley complained to me that he (Mohbad) was collecting money with an account that was not his, and that he had to force him to use his personal account.

“I also noticed that Mohbad sent me money from a strange account, and I warned him that anything he wanted to give me should come from his own account,” Aloba explained.

Fresh concerns have also emerged over revelations that the singer allegedly used his mother-in-law’s account for payments.

Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimo, questioned why the matter had not been thoroughly investigated.

“Naira Marley revealed that it was Wunmi’s mother’s account number Mohbad presented to him for the payment of his money and nobody is saying anything. By now, I expect the SAN working for Baba Mohbad to have written a petition that Wunmi’s mother’s account should be investigated,” she argued.
