Modric joins Milan on free transfer after Real Madrid exit

Legendary Croatian midfielder, Luka Modric, has officially joined AC Milan on a free transfer, signing a one-year deal with an option to extend until the summer of 2027.

The veteran playmaker had reached an agreement on personal terms last month but opted to delay the finalization of his move until after wrapping up Real Madrid’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Modric landed in Milan this morning to undergo medical examinations, both with the club and local health authorities, before putting pen to paper.

The contract structure means Modric could still be donning the red and black of Milan at the age of 41.

He has also been handed the Number 14 jersey for his upcoming journey at San Siro.

From Madrid Glory to Milan Ambition

Turning 40 in September, Modric boasts a remarkable 188 caps for Croatia and featured in 597 competitive fixtures during his 13-year tenure with Real Madrid.

His illustrious career with Los Blancos includes nearly every major honour imaginable: six Champions League crowns, four LaLiga titles, five Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, two Copa del Rey trophies, and five Spanish Super Cups. He also claimed the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2018.

Milan now becomes just the fourth club in Modric’s decorated career, following earlier stints at GNK Dinamo Zagreb, Tottenham Hotspur, and Real Madrid.

When the chance to join the Rossoneri arose, Modric didn’t hesitate. A lifelong Milan admirer, the midfielder’s move fulfills a childhood dream, a sentiment reinforced by fellow Croatian and club icon Zvonimir Boban.

With this transfer, Milan gains not just a midfield maestro but a global football legend, poised to bring experience, quality, and leadership to the heart of their team.
