Major League Soccer has issued lifetime bans to midfielder Derrick Jones and Ghanaian winger Yaw Yeboah after an investigation found they were involved in widespread betting on football matches, according to Tribuna.
The league said both players placed bets during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including wagers on games featuring their own teams.
MLS further disclosed that the duo once bet on Jones receiving a yellow card during a match between Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls in October 2024, an incident that eventually happened during the game.
Investigators also suspect that the players may have passed confidential information to other bettors regarding plans to deliberately receive bookings.
Jones, 29, had already been released by Columbus Crew last November, while 28-year-old Yeboah left Los Angeles FC in January before completing a move to Chinese club Qingdao Hainiu last month.
Despite the violations, MLS stated that its investigation found no evidence suggesting the betting activities directly affected the outcomes of matches.
