Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has criticised the Federal Government over what he described as poor capital budget released to several ministries.
Melaye made the allegation in a post on his X account, where he highlighted the disparity between the approved capital budgets of some ministries and the amounts reportedly released to them.
He said the Ministry of Women Affairs received N394.8m, representing just 0.44 per cent of its approved N89.8bn capital budget.
According to him, the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy received N202m, amounting to about 1.7 per cent of its N353bn allocation, while the Ministry of Transportation got N2.5bn, representing approximately one per cent of its N256.7bn capital budget.
Melaye also expressed concern over the funding of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, which he said received only N2bn out of its N100bn capital allocation, despite the country’s housing deficit being estimated at more than 22 million units.
He further disclosed that the Ministry of Water Resources received N1bn from its approved N80bn capital budget, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security got N3bn out of N120bn.
“The Ministry of Women Affairs received N394.8 million, just 0.44 per cent of its approved capital budget of N89.8 billion,” Melaye stated.
The former lawmaker’s claims have drawn attention to the funding available to key government ministries for the implementation of capital projects and delivery of public services.
