Former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, was elected the new National President of the Union on Saturday.

Akinsanya ran unopposed in the election, which was held at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat located along the Osogbo/Ikirun road. Delegates from the four Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti participated in the election.

The election took place during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference and was closely monitored by the acting National President of the Union, Aliyu Issa-Ore.

Issa-Ore, while addressing the delegates, explained that the Union’s Constitution designates the zone responsible for electing the National President, and it was the Southwest zone’s turn to present its candidate to the national body.

“The Southwest zone has fully complied with the Constitution in electing Oluomo as President,” said Issa-Ore, who was represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja.

In addition to Akinsanya’s election, delegates also elected Tajudeen Agbede as Vice President for the Southwest and Akeem Adeosun as Trustee from the Zone.

After taking the oath of office, Akinsanya, who was surrounded by family members and supporters, called for peace within the Union. He pledged to work towards unity among members, stating, “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well. This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
