Bryan Mbeumo has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for August.

The club confirmed the accolade in a statement released on Saturday.

“The classy forward, currently away on international duty with Cameroon, beat off competition from fellow nominees Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to earn the trophy.

“With supporters voting in their thousands in the United App, it is clear the former Brentford man has already impressed sufficiently to be taken into the hearts of the Reds’ faithful.

“Furthermore, his maiden Premier League strike, against Burnley, was voted our first Goal of the Month of the new season.

“After a bright competitive debut, in the unlucky loss to Arsenal, he supplied the corner at Fulham that was headed by Yoro, only for it to deflect and go in off Rodrigo Muniz, to be awarded as an own goal and deny Mbeumo the assist.

“He scored his first goal for the club to start the ultimately unsuccessful comeback at Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, with a fine solo effort in the 2-2 draw.

“Although it was his second penalty that ended the lengthy shootout, when crashing off the underside of the bar, this could not detract from his contribution to his early days as a Red.”
