Paris Saint-Germain skipper Marquinhos has opted to stay at the club for what will mark his 13th straight season in the French capital, according to L’Équipe (via Get French Football News).
The Brazilian international had been at the center of speculation following PSG’s long-awaited UEFA Champions League triumph. Questions surrounding his future intensified as the club moved closer to finalizing a deal for Bournemouth’s highly-rated defender, Illia Zabarnyi.
As per the report, the 30-year-old centre-back took time to carefully reflect before concluding that his future remains with the Ligue 1 champions.
Marquinhos, who has a contract with PSG running through to 2028, was said to have attracted big-money offers from clubs in the Middle East. Still, the seasoned defender is determined to continue his Parisian journey.
Despite the likely arrival of Zabarnyi, Marquinhos is keen to make his experience count, hoping to provide PSG boss Luis Enrique with some tactical selection dilemmas.
The former AS Roma defender is also conscious of his international ambitions, believing that maintaining his role in Paris offers the best path to securing a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With this decision, Marquinhos is set to match the club record held by Jean-Marc Pilorget, 13 seasons in the famous red and blue shirt.
