Maresca speaks on Chelsea’s preferred Club W’Cup final opponent

Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca, has stated he holds no particular preference over who the Blues will face in the final of the Club World Cup.

The West London club booked their place in Sunday’s showdown after a confident 2-0 semi-final victory over Fluminense, with Joao Pedro netting twice on his first start for the club.

Chelsea must now wait to discover their opponents, as Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid square off in the second semi-final on Wednesday.

When asked which side he’d prefer to face in the final, Maresca, who has now led Chelsea to two cup finals in the space of three months, remained diplomatic in his response.

“They are both top teams. One won the Champions League this season, the other one last season. They are top teams but we are proud and we are happy to be there,” he told DAZN after the match.

The Blues are aiming to end what has already been a successful campaign on a high by clinching the inaugural Club World Cup title.

Having lifted the Europa Conference League and secured a return to the Champions League, Maresca reflected positively on the season.

“It is a great achievement. It has been a fantastic season; top four in the Premier League, Conference League and now in the final of this competition – we are so, so happy,” Maresca added.

“We go game by game. Finally we have the last game of the season and hopefully we can win the tournament.”
