Man Utd was always in my heart, says Cunha

New Manchester United signing, Matheus Cunha, has shared a touching glimpse into his childhood connection with the club, revealing how weekend visits to his grandmother’s home laid the foundation for his Red Devils allegiance.

Cunha, 26, recently completed a £62.5 million transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers and gave his first interview as an official United player.

In it, he spoke fondly of his early exposure to Premier League football and how United became part of his identity through family traditions.

“It’s a funny story. Only in my grandma’s house could we watch the Premier League. My house didn’t have the channel and my cousin’s house didn’t have the channel,” Cunha recalled.

“So we organised to go at the weekend to my grandma’s house to watch the Premier League. He’s older than me and he supports United and he showed me the way to start to watch the Premier League and that I needed to support United.”

The Brazilian forward emphasized the emotional weight of joining United, a club that has held special meaning since childhood.

“And for me this club was always a bit inside of me. When I played with him in the street on the gravel pitch, we called these pitches Old Trafford. Imagine. So wow, it’s so hard to be here now and then thinking about the past is very emotional for me.”

Cunha’s arrival adds depth and energy to United’s attacking options, but beyond footballing matters, his heartfelt story signals a player who sees this move not just as a career step, but as the fulfillment of a childhood dream.
