Man Utd offer £55m to sign Brentford’s Mbeumo

Manchester United have made an initial approach to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, putting forward a bid valued at £55 million.

This move would mark United’s second signing of the summer transfer window, following their £62.5 million acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

The Red Devils are aiming to revamp a forward line that managed only 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches last season.

A key factor in progressing the deal is Mbeumo’s willingness to join United, giving INEOS an important green light to push the transfer forward.

This means that once the clubs agree on a fee, personal terms are expected to be straightforward.

The Cameroon international netted 20 goals and provided seven assists in 38 league games for the Bees, who finished 10th in the table.

Despite manager Ruben Amorim’s challenging debut campaign at Old Trafford, ending with United in 15th place and a Europa League final loss to Tottenham, Mbeumo remains determined to make the move.

Though Newcastle and Tottenham have shown interest, Mbeumo’s preference is to join United.

According to The Athletic, United’s offer includes a £45 million upfront payment, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons.

Brentford have yet to formally reject this but are holding out for at least £60 million, using Cunha’s fee as a benchmark.

At 25, the versatile forward is entering the final year of his Brentford contract, but the club retains an option to extend it by 12 months, keeping them comfortable in negotiations.

Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, reported that Amorim will likely require a fee closer to £70 million to secure the player.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has openly acknowledged Mbeumo could depart the Gtech Community Stadium this summer, but warned interested clubs about the cost, “That’s going to be expensive.”

Meanwhile, United had also targeted Ipswich’s Liam Delap for around £30 million, but the striker has since moved to Chelsea.

Amorim plans to overhaul his attacking options and may sell Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho during the transfer window.
