Manchester United are on the brink of landing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo in a deal that could exceed £70 million, sources close to the negotiations have confirmed to ESPN.

The Cameroon international is poised to become new manager Ruben Amorim’s second addition of the summer, following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United are eager to finalise the transfer swiftly after a prolonged period of back-and-forth with Brentford.

Optimism is growing that the 25-year-old winger could complete his medical as soon as this weekend and link up with the squad heading to the United States for a three-match pre-season tour beginning Tuesday in Chicago.

After lengthy negotiations, both clubs are understood to have reached an agreement that sees United pay an initial £65 million, with performance-related add-ons potentially pushing the final fee beyond £70 million.

Mbeumo, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season, has been one of Brentford’s standout performers and was the subject of increasing interest this summer.

His impending switch comes just days after United raised their bid in response to Brentford’s valuation, reportedly higher than the £62.5 million fee paid for Cunha.

United’s pursuit of Mbeumo intensified after Brentford began fielding multiple inquiries for his attacking partner Yoane Wissa.

While Brentford were open to business, club sources revealed their hesitation to let both forwards leave in the same transfer window.

Now, with personal terms reportedly agreed, Mbeumo is finally set for a big-money move to Old Trafford.
