A disturbing scene unfolded in Amichi, located in the Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a lifeless body was discovered hanging from a mango tree in a secluded bush on Friday.
This shocking incident follows closely on the heels of another grim finding, just two weeks ago, the body of a pregnant woman was uncovered in a forest in Ideani, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Confirming the latest development, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the discovery was made after an unknown individual alerted authorities using the deceased’s phone.
In a statement to the public, Ikenga said, “The body has been identified and deposited in a morgue, with efforts ongoing to contact the family.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed officers to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering to prevent crime and uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The police command is working to unravel the details of the unfortunate event and bring perpetrators to justice,” he said.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as residents remain shaken by the tragic developments in the region.
