England defender Kyle Walker has completed a move to newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley, signing a two-year contract in a deal that sees Manchester City receive a reported fee of £5 million ($6.8 million).
The 35-year-old right-back, who has been capped 96 times by England, brings with him vast experience, having made 410 appearances in the Premier League and lifted the trophy six times with City. He also helped the Manchester club secure the Champions League during his tenure.
Walker had spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan. Although Milan held an option to make the deal permanent, they ultimately chose not to exercise their right to buy him.
At City, whom he joined back in 2017, Walker still had one year left on his contract, which was due to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking on Saturday in a statement released by Burnley, Walker expressed his excitement about the move. “I’m delighted to be here,” he said.
“When I spoke to (manager) Scott Parker and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at.
“He’s done an amazing job here, guiding the club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we’re looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.”
Walker’s departure from City had been widely anticipated, especially after he was left out of the squad for the Club World Cup.
The transfer also marks a reunion between Walker and Burnley manager Scott Parker. The pair were teammates at Tottenham Hotspur between 2011 and 2013, and will now work together again as they aim to establish Burnley in the Premier League after their remarkable promotion campaign.
