Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is among several high-profile dignitaries expected to attend the public presentation of a commemorative book in honour of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Titled “How Not to Be a King”, the book will be unveiled on Friday, August 8, 2025, during the post-funeral reception of the revered monarch.

The event is scheduled to hold at 1 p.m. at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Originally intended to mark the monarch’s 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary, the book presentation has now become a central part of his final rites, following his passing on July 7, 2025—just two days after his 90th birthday and five days before his coronation anniversary.

Speaking in a statement on behalf of the royal family, the Chief Press Secretary to the late Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, said the book captures the essence of Oba Olakulehin’s reign and legacy.

“The book documents the life and times of the late monarch, featuring personal reflections and testimonials from family members, the Olubadan-in-Council, close friends, and associates,” Ayoade said.

He explained that the royal family decided to proceed with the book launch as a means of immortalising the monarch’s values and leadership philosophy.

“The family has decided to go ahead with the public presentation of the book, ‘How Not to Be a King,’ as a way of honouring and immortalising the values and leadership ideals of the late Oba Olakulehin,” the statement added.

Describing the monarch as “a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” Ayoade noted that the ceremony is expected to attract traditional rulers, political leaders, and members of the public.

“Governor Makinde is expected to lead other dignitaries, local government officials, and members of the Olubadan-in-Council during the book launch, which will also serve as a celebration of the monarch’s impactful life,” he said.

Oba Owolabi Olakulehin served as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland and was widely respected for his wisdom and calm leadership.
