The Oyo State Government has approved the sum of ₦110 million to host Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national football team, the Falconets, ahead of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
The decisive return-leg clash is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The decision was reached at Tuesday’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Acting Governor Bayo Lawal at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works, Abdulmojeed Mogbojubola, said the funds would cover logistics, accommodation, feeding, security, and other essential needs during the Falconets’ stay in the state.
“A total sum of ₦110 million has been approved to cover logistics, accommodation, feeding, security, and other related expenses while the team is in Oyo,” Mogbojubola announced.
He noted that hosting the Falconets aligns with the state’s vision of promoting sports and youth empowerment.
“This initiative is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s Roadmap for Sustainable Development (2023–2027), which prioritises investments in sports and youth-focused programmes. Beyond the immediate benefits, it will inspire our young athletes to aim for international standards,” the commissioner explained.
Mogbojubola also described the upcoming fixture as an opportunity to showcase Ibadan as a hub for major sporting events.
“Bringing the Falconets to Ibadan places the city on the national stage once again and boosts the morale of our local sports community,” he added.
He urged residents and football fans across the state to come out in large numbers to support the team, expressing optimism that the Falconets would make Nigeria proud in their quest for a World Cup ticket.
