LP factional chair labels Obi liar over tribunal controversy

The embattled factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, has called the presidential candidate of the party in the February 25 election, Peter Obi, a liar.

Recall that, Apapa was booed and harassed at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday, and was rescued by policemen out of the vicinity.

The matter of the factional party leadership between Apapa and Julius Abure had been contended for months after the presidential election, and the conflict was brought to court on Wednesday, as supporters of both factions clashed during the court session.

Apapa, while addressing newsmen after the court brouhaha, claimed that Obi’s ignorance of his position (Apapa’s) in the party was a lie.

He said, “The Abure…Peter Obi keeps on taking side…, I don’t want to be exposing him but he deserves to be exposed.

“Sometime ago, in one of the interviews he granted, he said that he does not know me at all. I want to tell the whole world, he’s a liar! And let me tell you why I said he’s a liar. I’ve been trying to cover it but he does not deserve it.

“The reasons are these: one, during his primary in Asaba, I did the opening prayer, and I was not a young officer, I was the National Deputy Chairman of the party, then.

“Ive been 21 years in this party, I’ve been with this party when it was formed and I’ve held a lot of positions in the party till where I am today. So that is not true at all, at all, at all.”
