The by-election for Ibadan North Federal Constituency commenced as scheduled today, but witnessed alarmingly low voter participation, with turnout reportedly below 20 per cent across multiple polling units.
Election officials cited poor voter awareness campaigns and widespread political apathy as key factors contributing to the dismal participation.
According to Vanguard, at Ward 10, Unit 27 in Ibadan North Local Government, voter Oluwaseun Omisakin described the sparse attendance as reflective of public disillusionment with the political system.
“The low turnout shows people’s dissatisfaction with the current political situation,” she observed. However, Omisakin praised the electoral process itself, stating, “The voting has been seamless,” while commending the efficiency of INEC’s ad-hoc staff.
