Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, has informed Atalanta of his desire to part ways with the club during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Multiple sources indicated the Nigerian international is currently in discussions with Serie A giants Inter Milan.
Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed the development, stating that Lookman has formally communicated his decision to leave the Bergamo-based outfit.
“Ademola Lookman, keen on Inter move after further contacts tonight with his camp. He told Atalanta he wants to leave,” Romano posted on X.
“Inter will soon submit their initial bid for Nigerian forward while Atalanta insist on more than €40m for Italian clubs.”
Atalanta Hold Out for Higher Fee
Although Atalanta are willing to negotiate Lookman’s departure, the club is reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of €50 million.
The Serie A side is also said to prefer selling the 27-year-old to a foreign club rather than strengthening a domestic rival.
Interest in Lookman isn’t limited to Inter Milan. European powerhouses such as Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Liverpool have all been linked with the in-form attacker.
Lookman came close to sealing a move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain last summer, underlining his growing stock in the European market.
Legacy at La Dea
Since making the switch from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has cemented his place as a key figure for Atalanta.
His crowning moment came last season when he netted a sensational hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing the trophy for La Dea.
The former Leicester City man has scooped Atalanta’s Player of the Season award in both of his campaigns at the club.
Last term, he notched 15 goals and contributed four assists across 31 appearances.
Lookman’s growing reputation was further bolstered when he was named the 2023 African Footballer of the Year.
