Ademola Lookman and Cyriel Dessers have boosted the Super Eagles’ preparations in Uyo after joining the national team camp ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa.
The team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, confirmed on Wednesday that their arrival has increased the number of players in camp to 18, with five more expected in the coming days.
Dessers, who only this week sealed a permanent switch from Scottish giants Rangers to Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos, will be looking to make an impact for the national side.
Lookman, meanwhile, remains an Atalanta player after a highly publicised summer transfer saga that saw Inter Milan pull out of a deal.
The 2023 African Player of the Year was also on the radar of German champions Bayern Munich, but no move materialised.
Nigeria will kick off their Group C campaign with a home clash against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday, September 6, before hosting South Africa three days later.
Players currently in camp (18):
Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, Benjamin Fredericks, William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, Bruno Onyemaechi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Stanley Nwabali, Ademola Lookman, Cyriel Dessers.
