LOC launches National Intermediate Games brand identity

The Local Organising Committee of the maiden National Intermediate Games has officially unveiled the competition’s logo and mascot as preparations gather momentum for the youth sports festival scheduled to take place in Lagos from October 1 to 15, The Punch reports.

The unveiling ceremony was led by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Sam Egube, alongside the committee’s co-chairmen, Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, and Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende.

Also in attendance were the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, members of the Main Organising Committee and other officials of the Local Organising Committee.

The newly introduced logo reflects Lagos’ cultural identity and the spirit of the Games. It features notable symbols such as the Eyo cap, Opambata, the “Eko” inscription, colourful swirls and three ascending stars.

The official mascot, named Lasgidi, was also presented during the event.

Speaking at the unveiling, Egube described the occasion as a fitting beginning for the inaugural Games.
“We are happy that we are able to gather for this event and, when the story is told, we will be glad that we were part of it from the very first day,” he said.
Olopade explained that Lagos earned the hosting rights because of its proven commitment to sports development.
“This is very proactive, and this is what we are looking forward to. Lagos has consistently shown that it can lead from the front and bridge the gap that exists in our sports.

“It is not only about organising this event. Lagos has a Sports Commission that has elevated school sports and nurtured young talents to the highest level. It is only fitting that the next stage of growth begins here, with Lagos showcasing that we can do things better than many people expect.”

Fatodu, who introduced the Games’ visual identity through the logo and mascot, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for backing the initiative.

“What we are seeing today is a manifestation of the seriousness, dedication and fulfilment of the promise made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the National Intermediate Games will be a spectacular event that will go down in the history of sporting activities in Nigeria,” Fatodu said.

Ogunlende also described the unveiling as another important step towards the successful staging of the competition.
According to him, the Games will serve as a platform to inspire young athletes, encourage sporting excellence and reinforce Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s foremost centre for sports development.
