Liverpool are prepared to reignite their pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak if the Tyneside club signals any willingness to let him go, as Arne Slot intensifies his hunt for a marquee forward ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The move follows the departures of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.
Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, revealed that the Reds are ready to submit an improved bid after Newcastle turned down their first approach last month.
“Liverpool will bid again for Isak, as always planned since July… if/when Newcastle open doors to his exit. No changes,” Romano posted on X on Tuesday.
Reports suggested Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s £110m offer for the Sweden international on August 1, prompting the Merseyside club to hint they were ready to abandon negotiations.
Since arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most lethal attackers, admired for his speed, sharp movement, and calm finishing, qualities that have placed him high on Liverpool’s shortlist as they seek to refresh their frontline.
While Eddie Howe has repeatedly underlined Isak’s importance to Newcastle’s Champions League aspirations, the club’s need to adhere to Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules could make a record-breaking proposal hard to refuse.
Following a pre-season defeat to Atletico Madrid, Howe admitted that “everything is in play” regarding Isak’s future, though he maintained it was “clear” he “cannot involve” the striker in his current plans.
Isak is set to miss Saturday’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa, having been sidelined during Newcastle’s far-east pre-season tour with a “minor” thigh problem. He later trained individually at former club Real Sociedad before returning to England last week.
Last season, the prolific Swede netted 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions and still has three years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park.
