Liverpool contact Newcastle over potential Isak signing

Liverpool have reached out to Newcastle United regarding the availability of star striker, Alexander Isak, according to reports.

While no formal offer has been made, Liverpool.com reveals that the Reds’ approach was more of a preliminary inquiry, aimed at gauging Newcastle’s stance and the potential valuation of the player.

Liverpool.com understands no formal offer has yet been submitted, with it widely accepted that Newcastle has no plans to sell its key man.

Liverpool’s approach was seen as more of a fact-finding exercise to see if the player could be available and, if so, for what sort of price.

Despite the lack of an official bid, The Athletic has indicated that Liverpool expressed an interest in completing a deal worth around £120 million ($161M).

The Athletic has reported Liverpool communicated its interest to Newcastle in concluding a deal around the £120million ($161M) mark.

This summer’s transfer market has been buzzing with activity in the forward department. Chelsea have moved for Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, Manchester United secured the services of Matheus Cunha, while Arsenal are believed to be closing in on Viktor Gyokeres.

Liverpool, on their part, have already strengthened with the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz.

Yet the search for a central striker remains high on the agenda at Anfield, with Isak emerging as a key target. The Reds are also monitoring Hugo Ekitike, as reported by The Athletic.

Hugo Ekitike is another player the club is monitoring, claims The Athletic.

Interestingly, Ekitike is also attracting attention from Newcastle, who are said to be in ongoing talks to bring the Eintracht Frankfurt forward to St. James’ Park.

However, the Frenchman is not considered a direct replacement for Isak.

Reports in recent days from journalists covering the Magpies state that the Eintracht Frankfurt star is not seen as a replacement for Isak and could even play alongside the Swedish star.

Should Liverpool succeed in securing a deal for Isak at the reported £120M figure, it would break their transfer record once again this summer, emphasizing their intent to reshape their attacking options ahead of the new season.
