The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has announced a fresh extension of the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns, moving it to Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
In a statement released on Friday, the agency said the decision followed a surge in activity on its electronic filing platform after an earlier extension to April 14. It noted that many taxpayers had been making efforts to comply with their obligations, resulting in increased traffic on the system.
“The extension has become necessary due to the significant rise in usage of our eTax platform, as more taxpayers work to meet the filing deadline,” the agency said.
LIRS explained that the additional time is intended to give taxpayers sufficient opportunity to complete their submissions without undue pressure, while also ensuring accuracy in the filing process.
“This final extension is aimed at providing convenience for taxpayers and ensuring that all returns are properly filed in line with statutory requirements,” the statement added.
The agency reiterated that filing annual tax returns remains a legal obligation for all eligible individuals and urged residents to take advantage of the new deadline.
The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, stressed that all submissions must be done electronically through the official eTax platform.
“All filings are to be completed via the LIRS eTax portal, which remains the only approved channel for submission,” Subair stated.
He also advised taxpayers encountering challenges to seek assistance through designated LIRS offices or official communication channels.
LIRS encouraged all taxpayers to use the extended window to fulfil their civic duties and avoid penalties associated with non-compliance.
