Lille thrash Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 to revive Europa League dreams

Lille bounced back in style from back-to-back Europa League defeats, thrashing GNK Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 to revive their Group Phase campaign.

Chasing a fourth straight home win, Lille controlled the opening stages but survived an early scare when Monsef Bakrar headed in for Dinamo inside seven minutes.

His effort was swiftly disallowed, however, as he was adjudged to have shoved Thomas Meunier in the build-up.

The hosts finally turned their superiority into a breakthrough in the 21st minute. Hakon Haraldsson slipped a clever pass into the path of Felix Correia, who kept his cool and nutmegged Ivan Filipovic to make it 1-0.

Lille doubled their lead shortly before the interval through a brilliant move initiated by Hamza Igamane.

The forward feinted a shot to draw in defenders before threading a perfect ball to Ngal’ayel Mukau, who finished clinically for 2-0.

Dinamo offered little resistance after the restart, and Filipovic was forced into a sharp save from Haraldsson just past the hour mark.

But less than a minute later, Igamane made it three, firing across goal into the far corner after another precise assist from Haraldsson.

The French side refused to ease up and capped off the night in the 86th minute. Filipovic’s parry fell kindly to Benjamin Andre, who calmly slotted home to complete the rout.

The emphatic win lifts Lille to nine points and strengthens their push for a knockout place.

Dinamo, still on seven points, remain in contention but will almost certainly need another victory to secure qualification.
